Sinn Féin’s Philip McGuigan has written to Mid and East Antrim council requesting urgent investment to upgrade the Waveney playing fields in Ballymena town.
The North Antrim MLA said:
“I am requesting that council give serious consideration to investing in, and urgently upgrading the current facilities at this location.
“Specifically I think that consideration be given to the provision of a 4g pitch with proper floodlights.
“There should be fencing around the perimeter of all pitches and it is long time since a permanent and appropriate changing facility is built to replace the current prefab facility.
“I have also requested that the parking facility be tarmacked."
Mr. McGuigan added:
“On my visit to the playing fields I also noticed an awful lot of dog dirt on the pitches and have requested appropriate and visible signage on dog littering, more dog litter bins as well as regular inspection of the playing surfaces.
“Teams that use these facilities, residents, particularly the youth of the area and local ratepayers should expect provision of modern up to date facilities from their council.”
