Passengers waiting for their buses and trains received quite the Christmas surprise at Belfast Grand Central Station this weekend, as dancers took to the concourse of the new station for a festive flash mob aimed at spreading Christmas Cheer in aid of Translink’s Staff Charity Partner, Air Ambulance NI.
The surprise performance featured a lively group of dancers who spontaneously burst into a choreographed routine amidst unsuspecting passengers.
Dancers congregated from a range of groups including, Belfast School of Performing Arts, Starburst Theatre School and Pop House Arts, led by choreographer and dance teacher Caitlin McClurg, with some passengers getting the dancing bug and joining in.
The high-energy spectacle included a mash up of seasonal classic All I Want for Christmas by Mariah Carey - which celebrates 30 years since it first hit the charts – and popular Christmas tune, Underneath the Tree by Kelly Clarkson, creating a memorable musical experience for everyone to enjoy.
This special event was not just about spreading festive joy, it was also an opportunity to make a difference with donations being collected in aid of Air Ambulance NI.
Commenting on the dance spectacular, Station Manager, Louise Doyle, said:
“Christmas is all about connections with old and new, so we wanted to bring a little unexpected magic to the station while supporting an incredible cause. This fun performance certainly added a festive surprise with a fantastic group of young local dancers entertaining passengers and lighting up many faces.
“Air Ambulance NI provides life-saving services so we’re thrilled to use the power of music, dance, and Christmas cheer to help make a difference at this busy time of year.”
