Traffic disruption expected as NI Water begin emergency repair works in Ballymena

Galgorm Road, Ballymena

Works are set to begin tomorrow (Tuesday 2nd July) by NI Water, to undertake emergency repairs on the sewerage system on the Galgorm Road (between the Translink Bus Centre entrance and its junction with Waveney Road).

The work is planned to get underway on Tuesday morning and expected to be completed on Wednesday 10th July 2024.

A spokesperson for NI Water said:

”To undertake the work in the safest possible manner, both lanes towards Ballymena town centre (between the bus station and Waveney Road junction) will be closed with temporary traffic lights in operation to control the flow of traffic around the works area.

“The temporary traffic lights will be in operation continuously, with working hours from 8.00am to 8.00pm, however, on occasions it may be necessary to work outside of these hours.

“For safety reasons, parking restrictions will also be in place around any works area. Pedestrian access will be available throughout the work and we will strive to complete the work in the shortest possible timeframe.

”NI Water and our contractor GEDA Construction would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work.

“This project will improve the condition of the existing sewerage system, reducing the likelihood of sewer collapses, blockages and ‘out of sewer’ flooding.”
