AUGUST BOOKS OF THE MONTH...
• Fiction Book of the Month
The Whalebone Theatre - Joanna Quinn
This is a fantastic coming-of-age story set in the shadow of an oncoming war, The Whalebone Theatre fizzes with invention and compassion as an 'unmarriageable' girl elects to defy convention and find her own path through life.
• Non Fiction Book of the Month
The World - Simon Sebag Montefiore
Recounting nothing less than the history of humanity through the overarching theme of family, Montefiore weaves an epic, page-turning story that features everyone from the Leopard-King of Benin to Margaret Thatcher.
• Children's Book of the Month
Mysteries at Sea: Peril on the Atlantic - A.M Howell
Perfect reading for fans of Emma Carroll and Natasha Farrant, the rollicking first instalment of Howell's maritime adventure series finds young Alice enmeshed in sabotage, espionage and dangerous secrets aboard the Queen Mary.
• Thriller of the Month
Those People Next Door - Kia Abdullah
Escalating with a sense of pulse-quickening dread, this unputdownable story of nightmare neighbours and the violence that lurks behind the hedgerows of suburbia is another winner from the author of Next of Kin.
• Irish Book of the Month
Common Decency - Susannah Dickey
The lives of a bereaved young woman and her neighbour who is consumed by her affair with a married man entwine in this dark, compelling and compassionate coming-of age that explores the hidden intimacies of modern life.
