The Met Office has today (Thursday 5th December) issued an amber weather warning of potentially damaging winds associated with Storm Darragh are forecast to impact Northern Ireland this weekend.
It is the fourth weather warning that has been issued for the province this week.
A yellow weather warning is in place from 3:00pm today to 3:00am on Friday morning (6th December), advising that some disruption is possible from strong and gusty winds.
A further yellow weather warning is in place from 3:00pm tomorrow afternoon (Friday 6th December) to 6:00am on Sunday morning (8th December). Strong winds associated with Storm Darragh will likely lead to some disruption and damage.
The Met Office has also issued a yellow weather warning advising of heavy rain that could lead to some flooding and disruption across Northern Ireland. This warning is effective from 3:00pm on Friday (6th December) to 12:00pm on Saturday (7th).
An amber warning will be in place from 3:00am on Saturday morning to 9:00pm on Saturday evening (7th December).
Commenting on the amber warning, a spokesperson for the Met Office said:
“A period of very strong northerly or northwesterly winds is likely to develop during Saturday as Storm Darragh moves from west to east.
“Gusts of 70 to 80 mph are likely around exposed coasts and headlands, where some very large waves are likely, whilst gusts of 60 to 70 mph are likely inland. The strongest winds will ease from the west through the afternoon.”
