In a swift operation late Wednesday night, October 23, the Road Policing Interceptors from Sprucefield, with assistance from colleagues in Antrim, Ballymena, and the PSNI Air Support Unit, apprehended a male suspect linked to the theft of a VW Polo earlier that evening in Antrim.

The sequence of events unfolded when the stolen vehicle crashed and was abandoned in the Carnlough area.

The suspect, who had been acting suspiciously, was observed by a vigilant member of the public. This individual promptly reported the sighting to the police after witnessing the suspect being picked up by another vehicle.

Acting on this tip, the Interceptors were able to safely intercept the vehicle involved in the getaway. The male was arrested on charges of Aggravated TADA (Taking And Driving Away), Fraud by false representation, and possession of a Class C controlled drug.

He is expected to face court proceedings soon.

Police have expressed their gratitude towards the public for their alertness and cooperation."Our thanks go to those concerned members of the public who contacted us to report the incidents involving this male yesterday," stated a police spokesperson.

This incident underscores the effectiveness of community vigilance combined with rapid police response in maintaining public safety. The PSNI continues to encourage anyone with information or who observes suspicious activities to report them immediately.
