
A photograph widely shared of the remains of the ATM discovered a day after it was stolen.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have recovered an ATM found at a forest park just outside of Antrim on Saturday 29th March.
It is understood a member of the public discovered the burnt out shell of the machine in the area of Tardree Forest.
Detectives launched an investigation after it was reported that the ATM was stolen from a service station at a retail park in the Ballymena Road area of Antrim the day before, Friday, March 28.
Speaking on Friday following the reported theft, Detective Inspector Lavery, Criminal Investigation Department said:
“A report was received on Friday morning that the ATM, containing a sum of cash had been removed from the wall of the premises, and taken intact from the scene.
"We have conducted a number of enquiries at the scene and are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area as part of our investigation. At this stage, we believe that the incident occurred at approximately 2am and involved a white Ford Transit van.
“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or who may have dash-cam or other video footage which could assist us, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 223 of 28/03/25.”
Police confirmed that the remains of the ATM has been taken away for further forensic examinations.
