Mid & East Antrim Borough Council organised and hosted a Royal Ulster Constabulary George Cross Memorial Service of Unveiling and Dedication at the Memorial Garden in Larne, on Sunday, 23 October.
The service was attended by His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim Mr David McCorkell, along with former representatives of the RUC and representatives from the PSNI.
The last Chief Constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC), Sir Ronnie Flanagan, was among those present in Larne on Sunday afternoon for the unveiling and dedication of the commemorative memorial to the Royal Ulster Constabulary George Cross.
The memorial was unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant for County Antrim, David McCorkell, Iona Meyer of the Widow’s Association and Lindsay and Eddie Spence.
There were many medals on display from past serving officers of the RUC who gathered for the event, while senior current service officers in the PSNI and members of other Associations were among those present.
The Mayor Alderman Noel Williams paid tribute to those who served with dedication and commitment to protect the community through dark days.
An impressive procession led by police pipers and a colour party came from the adjacent car park to the memorial grounds, where members of the public also waited.
Wreaths were laid in the poignant event by the Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Mayor, PSNI Area Commander Gillian Kearney, Sir Ronnie Flanagan and others during the event.
