Two cars seized by police teams in Rasharkin, County Antrim.

Road Policing Interceptors (Sprucefield) say they were “offering a special 2 for 1 deal” today, Thursday 10 October, on vehicle seizures.

A PSNI spokesperson commented:

“We attended a property in Rasharkin in relation to a Silver BMW being driven dangerously and failing to stop for local officers in the Ballymena area at the weekend.

“We located the car in question parked up exactly where we expected it to be. Having no Insurance, no mot, no tax and no one willing to admit ownership we seized it as being abandoned, it will now be crushed.

“Luckily for our suspect driver his other car turned up whilst we were in the area.

“Having observed it being driven (although not who was driving), we requested to see Insurance for the vehicle. There was no insurance for the car so we seized that one too.

“Could you afford to lose 2 cars within 10 minutes?

“Enquiries are ongoing in relation to the original driving offences.”

The police spokesperson added:

“On the way back to base we also stopped another driver in the Portglenone area after witnessing some dubious driving, driver issued a Careless driving Fixed Penalty Notice and a search of the vehicle was carried out which turned up this rather nasty looking extendable baton.

“The drivers excuse for having the baton... It was allegedly carried for clearing branches off the roads just didn't cut it…

“They'll now have a day in Court for Possession of an offensive weapon.”
