Primary school students across the Borough recently put their creative thinking and idea generation skills to the test for a competition to design a delicious new flavour of ice cream!
The winner was announced as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week and Go Succeed, Northern Ireland’s free Business Support Service.
Close to an incredible 200 entries were received from Primary 4 and 5 pupils from across MEA – with their submissions also including a marketing poster to promote their fantastic new product.Following very stiff competition, two lucky winners were selectedto have their flavour developed by local gelato manufacturer, True Gelato.
Eli Truesdale from Braidside Integrated Primary School, wowed judges by designing an original flavour, as well as a marketing poster, and mascot inspired by his favourite game. The winning creation ‘Peely’s Peanut Butter Banana Choc Chip’ impressed judges with its creativity and originality, earning the entire class a special visit to their school from True Gelato.
During the visit, the children had the exciting opportunity to sample the winning flavour - bringing the imaginative concept to life. The event celebrated creativity, teamwork, and a shared love for gelato!

Joint winner, Corran Integrated Primary School Pupil, Lucas Loughlin, amazed the judges with his unique creation of a Larne Football Club themed entry - a refreshing mix of strawberry and white chocolate inspired by the club's red and white kit.
As part of the prize, Lucas and his classmates were invited to an exclusive tour of Larne Football Club’s stadium, where they experienced the magic of football behind the scenes.
Highlights of the visit included visiting the players' dressing rooms, exploring the tunnel leading to the pitch, and getting a glimpse of the training facilities used by their sporting heroes. Lucas was also presented with his winning creation, brought to life for all to enjoy.
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council aims to inspire curiosity and creativity in young minds through engaging competitions that encourage pupils to explore new ideas and showcase their talents. These initiatives aim to make learning fun while fostering a spirit of innovation and collaboration.
The competition was delivered as part of Go Succeed and was created by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in partnership True Gelato. Go Succeed is funded by the UK Government, and supports entrepreneurs, new starts and existing businesses at every stage of their growth journey.
