Police have charged a 30-year-old man with a number of offences including grievous bodily harm and threats to kill.

He is due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 27th January.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The man was arrested on Thursday (26th January) by detectives investigating a domestic assault in the Ballee area of Ballymena.

The incident is understood to have occurred between 5pm and 6pm on Wednesday 25th January, when the victim, who is aged in her thirties, was assaulted to the face, sustaining an injury to her head and a broken arm.

In a statement yesterday police stated the incident escalated from a domestic setting in the Lanntara area and ended publicly outside the shops on Ballee Drive.

Detectives are appealing for potential witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Paula Gilmore said:

“Our enquiries remain ongoing and we are appealing for witnesses who may have been in these areas of Ballymena at the time this offence took place.

“We would be particularly interested in speaking with two males who may have spoken with the victim outside the shops on Ballee Drive.

“Please contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1667 of 25/01/23.”
