Police investigating a vehicle pursuit, ramming and related offences in Kilrea on Wednesday afternoon, 27th November have charged three men to court.

One man aged 38 years old and two men, both aged 27 years old, have been charged with a number of offences including attempted kidnapping, common assault, robbery and threats to kill.

They are due to appear at Limavady Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena Magistrates Court, on Saturday 30th November. As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Police earlier today (Friday 29th November) charged a 31-year-old with a number of offences including criminal damage, dangerous driving and obstructing police.

The man who cannot be named for legal reasons appeared on Friday before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court charged with 11 offences.

Appearing via videolink from police custody, the defendant acknowledged understanding the 11 charges laid against him, all purportedly occurring near the Diamond area in Kilrea on November 27, 2024.

District Judge Peter King, at Coleraine Magistrates Court, declined to release the 31-year-old, stating, "Given the nature of the offences, his previous convictions, and that he is currently on bail for an aggravated burglary which could potentially move to the Crown Court... I have no reservations in denying bail."

The charges against the man include driving under the influence, dangerous driving, failure to stop for the police, three counts of refusing to provide a breath specimen, driving without insurance or a license, theft of a coat and phone, criminal damage, and obstructing police.

Detective Constable McCormick, providing evidence to the court, stated he was confident in linking the defendant to each charge and explained that the police objected to bail due to risks of additional criminal activity.

Meanwhile, a 37-year-old man has been released to allow for further enquiries.
