Queen's has been recognised as one of the world’s top universities, with 21 subjects ranked in the top 200 globally, as announced in the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, released on 12 March 2025 by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, provides independent comparative analysis of the reputation and research output of over 5,200 institutions.

Queen’s has grown from 10 subjects ranked in the top 200 in 2021 to 21 subjects this year. Furthermore, the University has 4 subjects that have ranked within the top 100 in the world.

A key highlight in this year’s rankings is that Pharmacy at Queen’s is now ranked 19th  in the world, up from 35th last year.

Professor Gavin Andrews, Head of School of Pharmacy at Queen’s said:

“As a School, we are immensely proud to be placed in the global top 20. This ranking is a clear indicator of the excellence and impact of our research, and the quality of our graduates, but it also reflects the shared contribution and authentic engagement from all our staff in delivering this excellent outcome.”

In addition, Nursing, Performing Arts and Social Policy are all ranked in the top 100 in the world for their subject areas.

Welcoming the rankings, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement at Queen’s, Professor Margaret Topping, said:

“Once again, it is fantastic to see that Queen’s has been named as one of the world’s top universities across a broad range of subjects, with a truly outstanding performance by Pharmacy which is now ranked in the top 20 globally. In a university full of dedicated and talented staff and students, this is an achievement of which we can all be proud.

“This ranking recognises above all the excellence and  impact of our research, and the quality of our graduates, as voted for by academics and employers across the world. It is testimony to the outstanding staff at Queen’s, and I would like to thank everyone whose contribution makes this result possible.”

QS uses five indicators to determine the rankings, taking into account academic reputation, employer reputation and faculty research. More information on the methodology used can be found on the QS website.
