One person taken to hospital following gas explosion in Co Antrim

A person has been taken to hospital following a gas explosion which occurred on Wednesday morning (3rd July) in the Hansons Hall Lane area of Ballyclare, County Antrim.


It is understood the explosion occurred around 10:30am at the site of road works which were taking place in the area. Witnesses at the scene described a large fireball following the incident.


Police rushed to the scene, joined by colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS), Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) and Northern Ireland Air Ambulance.



A spokesperson for NIAS commented:


“The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 10:32 on Wednesday, 3rd July following reports of an incident on Hansons Hall Lane Area, Ballyclare.


“NIAS despatched one Emergency crew, oneAmbulance Officer and the Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board were also tasked to the incident.



“One patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by Ambulance.”


The patient’s condition is currently unknown.


NIFRS has been contacted for comment.
