Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has launched a recruitment campaign for Wholetime Firefighters.

Wholetime Firefighters work full-time. They are based in full-time Fire Stations to help make Northern Ireland a safer place.

Recruitment begins today, 28 September, and the closing date for applications is 13 October 2023.

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Area Commander Suzanne Fleming said:

“Being a Firefighter is not like any other job – it’s fast paced and exciting. It can be tough at times but it’s extremely rewarding.

“We respond to challenging incidents including fires, floods, road traffic collisions, chemical spills, rescue incidents, and many other types of emergencies. We make our community safer by aiming to prevent incidents from occurring in the first place. We do this by delivering fire safety advice alongside other community safety initiatives and engagements.

“Firefighters are required to work shifts and on public holidays. They can be stationed anywhere in Northern Ireland. They have to be physically strong and are required to maintain their fitness throughout their career.

“There is a robust and lengthy recruitment process, with many stages. Applicants must be committed to investing a lot of their time to the process. If you have the commitment, the fitness, the enthusiasm and the drive to work as part of a team and help protect our community, you may have what it takes to be a Firefighter. I would encourage you to apply now to climb a different kind of career ladder.”
