The Post Office is proposing to move Cloughmills Post Office to a new location within the village.

The proposal comes after the current postmaster has resigned and the premises at 17 Main Street, Cloughmills, BT44 9LF, will be withdrawn for Post Office use.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said:

“We are pleased to inform you that a new operator has been appointed, who has identified an alternative location to operate Cloughmills Post Office.

“The proposed Eurospar premises (at 11 Main Street), would undergo a refurbishment to incorporate Cloughmills Post Office. Our priority is to safeguard our services in the locality in the longer term.

“The relocation of Cloughmills Post Office would enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the community.

“There would be a Post Office service position at the retail counter.

“The Post Office opening hours would be Monday to Sunday: 9am – 9pm. This would provide 84 hoursof Post Office service a week for the convenience of customers. This would be an extra 38 hours and 30 minutes a week including all-day Sunday, Saturday afternoon and later closing.

“The proposed premises would be approximately 25metres from the current branch with parking available at the premises and with dedicated disabled parking bays. The proposed new operator will be looking to add a marked pedestrian walkway across the petrol station forecourt to provide safe access to the entrance.”

A consultation is now open with the opportunity for the local community to give feedback, and will close on 12 March. Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 157702.
