Midtown Makers, a hub for creative expression and community engagement, has announced a month-long celebration of all things crafty.
Starting August 1, the studio and shop located at 51-53 Church Street in Ballymena will be hosting a series of engaging events that promise to inspire and delight participants of all ages and skill levels.
This year's August Craft Month at Midtown Makers is set to be a vibrant showcase of local talent and artistic ingenuity. From textile art exhibitions to hands-on workshops, the event aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the art of crafting and the profound impact it can have on personal wellbeing and community spirit.
One of the highlights of the month is the exhibition by textile artist Sandra Streeter, titled "Invisible Illness, Visible Stories."
Sandra’s work delves into the complexities of living with invisible illness, using bright colours, shapes, and embellishments to explore the neurological system and the origins of pain. Her exhibition is a testament to the transformative power of art in expressing the human experience. Sandra said:
“I decided to investigate the neurological system to understand where the pain originates. I ground my work by researching Histology, Neurology, and Electro-microscopy Biology to create drawings, collages and samples that could be adjusted to my style as a way to express myself and the subject through bright colours, shapes and embellishments using hand embroidery techniques.”
For those looking to learn a new skill or enhance their existing talents, Midtown Makers has lined up a series of workshops that promise to be both educational and therapeutic.
On August 10th, the "Crochet for Wellness" workshop invites participants to discover the calming benefits of crochet, with expert guidance from tutor Amanda Jones. This session promises to be a soothing journey as you experience the art of crochet and how it can benefit your mental health and wellbeing,
On August 31st, Shelley Steele, a renowned felt artist, will lead the "Wet Felted Flower Wall Hanging" workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own unique piece of wall art, turning wool fibres into stunning fabric. This workshop is a perfect example of how Midtown Makers encourages hands-on learning and the joy of creating something tangible.
Midtown Makers invites everyone to join them in celebrating the joy of crafting throughout August. Whether you're a seasoned crafter or a curious beginner, there's something for everyone at this vibrant community event.
