Mid and East Antrim Council announces park closures across borough due to Storm Darragh

With an amber weather warning in place this weekend, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has announced a number of park closures.


Storm Darragh will bring a period of very strong northerly or northwesterly winds across Northern Ireland, which will develop during Saturday (7th December) as the storm moves from west to east.



Gusts of 70 to 80 mph are likely around exposed coasts and headlands, where some very large waves are likely, whilst gusts of 60 to 70 mph are likely inland. The strongest winds will ease from the west through Saturday afternoon.


A yellow warning for wind also remains in effect until 06:00 on Sunday (8th December) morning.


Park closures across Mid and East Antrim include:


BALLYMENA


• People’s Park

Closed Saturday 7 December

The park will close earlier today (Friday 6th December), if deemed necessary.



• Sentry Hill

Closed from today through to Sunday morning


• Memorial Park

Closed from today through to Sunday morning


• Bracknamuckley Wood

Closed from today through to Sunday morning



CARRICKFERGUS


Council will be monitoring both Shaftsbury and Joymount parks over the weekend and will close both if conditions dictate same.

LARNE


Carnfunnock Country Park

Closed Saturday 7 December

The park will close earlier today if deemed necessary.
