A yellow weather warning has been issued today by the Met Office who advise that a band of heavy, thundery rain is expected to push quickly east across Northern Ireland early on Monday morning.
The advisory is active for all parts of the province from 12:00am to 7:00am on Monday August 12.
A Met Office spokesperson commented:
“A narrow band of heavy rain and thunderstorms is expected to reach Northern Ireland during the early hours of Monday, before pushing quickly east, clearing around 0700.
“Whilst not all areas will be affected, where storms do occur frequent lightning, gusty winds and possibly some large hail will be additional hazards.
“As the heavy rain moves through, 20-40 mm could fall in an hour or so, with a few places perhaps seeing 60 mm by the time rain clears.”
