Police have confirmed a man has sadly died on Sunday afternoon, 15th December, after falling from a height on the Antrim coast.
The tragedy unfolded at around 1:45pm today in the Torr Head area, near Ballycastle.
The volunteers of RNLI Redbay launched to the incident as well as His Majesty’s Coastguard. It is understood a helicopter from the Irish Coastguard was also tasked to scene, alongside the North West Mountain Rescue Team.
The casualty sadly died at the scene. Unconfirmed reports suggest the man is from the Ballymena area.
A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland commented:
“Police received a request for assistance with a rescue operation in the Torr Head area of Ballycastle, at around 1.45pm on Sunday 15th December.
“Officers, together with colleagues from His Majesty's Coastguard, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and North West Mountain Rescue Team, worked together to reach a man aged in his 60s but sadly, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
It is understood a post-mortem will follow in due course, but at this time the death is not believed to be suspicious.
