Braid Sinn Féin Councillor Archie Rae has appealed for the community’s help to aid a police investigation into a hit and run road traffic collision that occurred at the weekend outside Ballymena.

Police received a report of the incident around 8:55pm on Saturday evening (26th October) at the Glenravel Road area of Martinstown.

Police confirmed that a woman had sustained serious injuries and a man was arrested. A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said:

“A white Peugeot Professional van was located by members of the public with frontal damage nearby, but left the scene on arrival by police. The woman was taken to hospital for injuries that are described as potentially life changing.

“The van was later recovered and a 25-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of related offences.”

Councillor Rae has asked anyone with any information or possible camera footage to come forward. He commented:

“Following Saturday night's hit and run incident, police are looking for any dashcam or Ring Doorbell footage. They have asked anyone with information to contact them in the strictest confidence.

“If you prefer you can contact myself by calling 07857 79 1267 or email me rae.archie@yahoo.co.uk.”

Councillor Rae continued by urging the local community to avoid rumours and to respect the family’s privacy at this time.

”Any information, however small, will be appreciated - we need your help,” concluded Mr Rae.

Police Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and police would appeal to anyone with any information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1715 26/10/24.

Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers, who guarantee complete anonymity, on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
