Jill Bakes the Alphabet | ‘C’ is for Caramelitas!

‘C’ is for Caramelitas! One of my favourite traybakes ever - if you haven’t ever tried these you really need to!

INGREDIENTS…

225g rolled oats

250g plain flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp sea salt

350g light soft brown sugar

250g unsalted butter, melted

125g dark chocolate, chopped into chunks

125g milk chocolate, chopped into chunks

397g tin Carnations caramel

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 180 degrees fan and line a 9x9 inch tin with baking paper.

In a large bowl, combine the oats, flour, baking soda, salt and sugar. Stir in the melted butter.

Spoon about 2/3 of the mixture into the lined tin and press down with a spoon. Bake this in the oven for 10 minutes until golden.

Remove the tray from the oven and sprinkle over the chopped chocolate. Then drizzle over most of the caramel and make sure it's spread evenly.

(Leave some in the bowl to drizzle over the baked traybake).

Crumble over the remaining oat topping and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.

Drizzle over the remaining caramel (or chocolate if you prefer) and a pinch of sea salt.

Leave to cool and set for at least 4 hours but preferably overnight at room temperature.

Then cut using a really sharp knife and enjoy!

Keep in an airtight container - they will keep for up to a week but they definitely won't last that long!
