Site plan for holiday park situated outside Antrim.
A planning application has been submitted to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for a holiday park at a rural location outside Antrim.
The proposed development will comprise of three glamping pods and two touring caravan sites, pathways and a pond at Clonkeen Hill, Randalstown.
The application was lodged by an agent on behalf of Faith McIntyre.
A supporting planning statement says that it is a partially retrospective application with one pod, pond and associated pathways already in place although the operation of the park has not commenced.
The report indicated that the proposal is a “food tourism concept” with options for future guests to purchase locally-produced food and to participate in cookery demonstration nights. It also noted that this aspect can be “updated as local relationships and food networks continue to build”.
It said: “It is a sustainable tourism proposal. The design focuses on quality with the pods containing individual toilets, showers, beds and small living spaces.
“The pods are/will be constructed with high quality durable timber and glazing to ensure energy efficiency is maximised. The materials are/will be of sustainable origin.
“The creation of the pond and associated proposed works which seek to retain wider existing natural features (the spring, mature boundaries and significant tree pockets will be augmented through additional wild flower and tree planting.
“The site has been selected due to the presence of a natural spring which was augmented in recent years to a pond. Every effort is made to encourage the wildlife and pond-life – the lake is stocked with native species fish.
“Two of the three pods and both touring caravan stands are all generally clustered around the existing pond.”
Access to the units will be via a key pad entry.
