In a dramatic rescue operation on Monday afternoon (19 August), the Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Rescue Teams were dispatched to Kinbane Castle on the County Antrim coast after a person suffered a severe leg injury from a fall.

The incident, which occurred in one of Northern Ireland's most picturesque yet remote locations, necessitated a complex evacuation strategy.

Due to the challenging terrain and the severity of the injury, it was determined that the safest evacuation method would be via helicopter. The Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R199 from Prestwick was called in for the operation.

The rescue team successfully airlifted the casualty to the top of the cliff, where they were immediately handed over to the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) for further medical attention. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) was also present at the scene, providing additional support.

This incident underscores the risks associated with exploring remote natural sites and the critical role played by emergency services in such situations.

The coordinated effort between various emergency services highlights the effectiveness of emergency response in Northern Ireland, ensuring that even in the most challenging environments, help is never too far away.
