Local charity Friends of the Cancer Centre is calling on people to step out in support of local people impacted by cancer by taking part in its inaugural Wish Upon A Star Winter Walk this Sunday 1st December.
The Wish Upon A Star Winter Walk is a family friendly event and an opportunity to get together with loved ones to show support for those who are undergoing treatment for cancer, those who have finished treatment, or to remember those who are no longer with us.
Participants are encouraged to get into the festive spirit by wearing Christmas jumpers as they take on the gentle 2.5k walk, which will set off from the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre in Belfast.
Walkers will make their way through the beautiful Botanic Gardens, before returning to the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre to warm up with some festive refreshments, live music and a very special visit from Santa. Participants will also have the opportunity to support the charity’s Wish Upon A Star appeal, where they can dedicate a star to someone special and hang it the Cancer Centre’s Christmas tree.

Looking ahead to the event, Ciara Bainbridge, Corporate and Events Fundraising Officer at Friends of the Cancer Centre, said:
“We are delighted to launch our new Wish Upon a Star Winter Walk, which gives people the opportunity to mark this time of year in a unique and special way.
“Christmas can be a really special time for so many people, but it can also be a difficult time for families who have been impacted by cancer. That’s why our Wish Upon A Star Winter Walk is so special.
“It’s a wonderful way to say thanks to those who have cared for us and our loved ones, to show our support for someone who has been through cancer treatment, or to remember someone special who is no longer with us.
“We would love to see lots of people come out and take part in the walk, so please get your walking shoes on and help make this an event to remember.”
