Elderly man in critical condition after being punched to the head in Antrim

Detectives are investigating a serious assault on a 74 year old man at Station Road in Antrim on Saturday 2nd November.


It was reported shortly after 7.30pm, that the victim was approached by a male and female and punched to the head by the male, knocking him unconscious.



The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment to serious head injuries following the incident and he remains in a critical condition.


A man aged 21 and a woman aged 25 were arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted murder and are currently in custody. 



Ulster Unionist Antrim Councillor, Leah Smyth, has expressed her disgust at the incident. She commented:


“I actually have no words.


”I cannot fathom how someone could do something so horrible to anyone, let alone a 74-year-old man. Absolutely disgusting.


”If you have any information whatsoever, please contact PSNI.


“My thoughts and prayers are with the elderly man and hope he recovers well from this.”
