Dunloy man walking barefoot to Maghera in memory of sister while raising funds for NI Hospice

Dunloy man Niall O’Kane is completing a barefoot 18 mile walk today (Saturday 10 April) in memory of his sister Brenda who sadly passed away on 22 March.

Brenda was diagnosed with terminal cancer nearly 2 years ago and during that time received amazing support from the Northern Ireland Hospice. Before she passed away, Brenda knew and was excited by the family’s plan for Niall to complete the walk, from his own home in Dunloy to her home in Maghera, in her name, and to raise much needed funds for the NI Hospice.

Sister Noreen O’Kane said: “This is was Brenda’s and our family’s way of saying ‘thank you’ and to give something back to the nurses who helped care for her.”

Niall original set a fundraising target of £300. At the point of publishing, over £9,600 has been raised. The family would be most grateful if you were able to donate in support of the NI Hospice.
