The Dunclug U16 boys rugby team secured a convincing victory over Glastry College in the High Schools Trophy semi-final today, booking their spot in the final at Kingspan Stadium on March 20th.
Dunclug won the toss and captain Timmy McNabney opted to play with a strong wind on his back in the first half.
Dunclug dominated the first half, capitalising on the strong wind and getting into the opposition 22. A strong carry from some of the forwards was finished off with a fine break by Adam Walsh. Joel Barr added the conversion and a couple minutes later added a penalty to make it 10-0.
Dunclug finished the half with a score down the blind side from captain Timmy McNabney and a lovely break in midfield from Joel Barr - great hands from Tom Knox to put him away. Half time 22-0.
Glastry started the second half well with a smart kick from their scrum half put the boys under pressure, which resulted in a penalty to Glastry, 22-3.
The second half was finished with a lot of solid defensive work against the wind and Joel Barr and Tom Knox scoring two brilliant individual scores.
Final score 36-8.
The entire team displayed exceptional talent and determination throughout the match, and they will be looking to continue their winning streak in the final at Kingspan Stadium.
