Diabetes Live Well Hub: Providing health and wellbeing support to Ballymena

Diabetes UK Northern Ireland has announced a series of new dates for its Ballymena-based Live Well Hub which provides members of the local community with information and resources to support their diabetes care.

Established earlier this year, the Ballymena Live Well Hub is one of two now operating in Northern Ireland, with a third launching later this month in Belfast. The Hubs provide a one-stop-shop for diabetes related information, advice and support from both local healthcare professionals and members of the Diabetes UK Northern Ireland team.

Across Northern Ireland, there are nearly 112,000 people living with diabetes, 29,212 of which fall under the Northern Trust – the highest figure across all Trust areas. Data released earlier this year also indicates that a further 66,000 people in Northern Ireland are considered to have pre-diabetes and are at risk of developing the condition during their lifetime.

Commenting on the Live Well Hubs, Diabetes UK Northern Ireland National Director, Tina McCrossan, said:

“The establishment of these hubs are exciting steps within a five-year project for our team where we continue to grow this type of support across the region. Already in place in both Ballymena and Bangor, we’re delighted that they have been so well received by members of the local community and are seen as a valuable resource to support their diabetes management.

“In addition to facilitating a greater understanding of diabetes and fostering relationships between the diabetes communities and their healthcare providers, the Live Well Hubs provide people with an outlet to connect with peers and share their experiences. They also help shine a vital light on type 2 diabetes and how members can learn more about living well with the condition.

“A special thank you to everyone who has joined our team at the Ballymena Live Well Hub to date, we hope to see some new faces join us in the months ahead!”
