Craigdun Care Home (Cullybackey) was filled with laughter and smiles as Cre8 Theatre, in collaboration with Mid and East Antrim (MEA) council, recently presented their show "Corner Shops, Carts, Coffins and Crochet."

The performance, inspired by stories and memories from the older generation in the borough, resonated deeply with the residents, evoking cherished memories of local places and events.

The play, funded by the Arts Council NI's Rural Engagement Programme and the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, was developed from stories gathered during an Afternoon Tea Dance in April. The event was a joint effort with Agewell Partnership and the Braid Arts Centre.

At heart, the project is one of reminiscence - bringing stories and memories to life, putting by gone times on their feet again, jogging memories and reigniting the past.

Sarah Lyle, Artistic Director of Cre8 Theatre, described the project as a beautiful endeavour, stating, "Working with the older people living in the borough, giving light to by gone eras and reinvigorating the past." The play was written and directed by Lyle, with additional story support from local storyteller Clare McKay.

The show, part of "The Theatre In Your Front Room" program, aims to bring theatre directly to local communities, particularly to those who may not have easy access to live performances.

For the residents of Craigdun, it brought back so many special memories of local places and events over the years.

The cast of "The Theatre In Your Front Room" was warmly received by the residents and staff of Craigdun Care Home, marking a successful and heartwarming engagement with the community.
