Two local men, James Kenny, aged 62, and Daniel Sherwin, aged 25, both residents of Orkney Drive, appeared in court today charged in connection with an assault and an incident involving a reported 'handgun' in the Ballymena area.
The incident, which took place on Tuesday, October 29, prompted a swift response from police.
According to court documents, Kenny faces charges including non-fatal strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear, and possession of controlled substances, namely cocaine and Pregabalin.
Sherwin, on the other hand, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm or imitation firearm, possession of cannabis, and possession of fireworks without a license.
Details of the altercation emerged after police received a report early in the morning of an assault at a residence in Orkney Drive.
The victim, a man in his 20s, reportedly suffered injuries to his face, abdomen, and leg.
Detective Inspector Lenaghan from the PSNI's Criminal Investigations Department commented in an earlier press release:
"The injured man reported that he had been attacked at a residential property in the Orkney Drive area of the town. He sustained injuries which at this stage are not thought to be serious."
Following their court appearance today, both men were remanded into custody. The case has been adjourned until November 21, when it will be heard again at Ballymena Magistrates' Court.
