Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has today (Thursday 22nd February) announced a public consultation on the long-awaited Ballymena Leisure, Health and Wellbeing Centre.
Local residents are being invited to have their say at a pre-application community consultation drop-in event, set to take place on Thursday 7th March between 12:00pm and 7:00pm, at the Seven Towers Leisure Centre in the town.
Members of the project team will be in attendance throughout the drop-in event to answer your questions and hear your comments.
The proposed leisure, health and wellbeing centre development has been assigned a plot of land within the former St Patrick's Barracks site, and is part of the overall multi-million pound regeneration of the area, which has included a new campus for Northern Regional College, a new clean-tech centre as well as over 140 social housing properties.
It is also understood a site has been earmarked in the development for the new Ballymena Police Station.
Current designs for the new Ballymena Leisure, Health and Wellbeing Centre includes an eight-lane pool, a learner pool, a four court sports hall, a café, a gym, spin studios, clip and climb, a community hub, a soft play area and a spa facility.
The proposals will remain on public exhibition at the Seven Towers Leisure Centre from Friday 8 March 2024 until Wednesday 10 April 2024 (during the opening hours of the Leisure Centre).
It is understood the Council is keen to advance the much-needed development as soon as funding is allocated.
More information and ways to submit your feedback will be available at the Seven Towers Leisure Centre and also online at:
The submission of responses must be received by Wednesday 10 April 2024.
