A rescue operation was mounted on Tuesday evening, 30 May, at Magheracross on the North Antrim coast.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Coleraine commented:

"Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Teams rescued two persons trapped at the base of cliffs on the Coast Road near Dunluce Castle at 17:00 this evening.

"They had been paddle boarding and had come ashore in an inlet. Both were unhurt.

"Portrush RNLI inshore lifeboat attended."

The spokesperson added:

"During the rescue, the team received an additional tasking to Benone beach after something was spotted in the water and personal effects were found abandoned on the shore. Part of the team was diverted and Portrush RNLI inshore and all weather lifeboats were tasked.

"Thankfully it was a false alarm."
