Co Antrim charity dedicated to supporting teens with Autism receives prestigious King’s Award

County Antrim based ‘All About Us - ASD Teens’ have been recognised for their fantastic work, being awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

This prestigious Royal recognition is announced annually and is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK - equivalent to an MBE.

All About Us is a group of volunteers who runs various sessions for young people and the local community, from their dedicated premises in Greystone, Antrim.

Recognising the need for a local network where families could share information, offer support, and create connections, Christina O'Neill was motivated to establish this charity group.

Founder and family support worker, Christina O'Neill, explained:

“All About Us - ASD Teens was established in 2018 with the goal of providing a safe and supportive space for young people with Autism and their families in Antrim and the surrounding areas. Since then, the group has grown steadily, with regular meet-ups, events, and new friendships being formed.

“Through the commitment of our volunteers, members and the wider community, All About Us - ASD Teens continues to thrive and expand, making a positive difference in the lives of many families.”

All About Us is one of 281 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. Their work, along with others from across the UK, is a reminder of all the ways fantastic volunteers are contributing to their local communities and working to make life better for those around them.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups to support their communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate Her Majesty The late Queen’s Golden Jubilee and, was continued following the accession of His Majesty The King. 2024 marks the second year of The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Representatives of All About Us will receive the award crystal and certificate from Mr David McCorkell, Lord-Lieutenant of County Antrim later this summer. In addition, two volunteers from All About Us will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May and June 2025, along with other recipients of this year’s Award.

Christina added:

"Winning The King's Award is a testament to the dedication of our incredible volunteers. Their hard work, passion, and generosity make a meaningful difference, creating a supportive, family-like environment where everyone feels they belong.

“This award is for you, in recognition of all you do every day. Thank you—you are the heart of our success!"
