Christmas wreath workshop at Belfast Zoo this Festive season!

Belfast Zoo is hosting a festive wreath making workshop on Saturday 2 December 2023.

Visitors will enjoy a magical time and get crafty at the wreath workshop in the Zoo café. In this exclusive workshop, there will be plenty of festive cheer whilst visitors learn about the history of wreath making and the skills of creating a festive wreath.

They will learn how to decorate a 14-inch festive wreath, including foliaging, wiring and making a beautiful triple bow.

Following the workshop, visitors can relax and enjoy a scrumptious festive afternoon tea.

Zoo manager, Alyn Cairns, said:

“We are delighted to be hosting a crafting workshop at Belfast Zoo. The art of traditional wreath making has been dwindling and we are bringing it back!

"Fresh plant materials will be used as we’ll be sourcing all the foliage from the zoo. We want to ensure our workshops are ran with sustainability in mind, so all materials are either compostable or recyclable.”

Alyn continued:

“Visitors can create their wreath using a mixture of seasonal foliage, such as moss, holly, leaves, and pinecones. They can add apple and orange slices, and some cinnamon infused sticks to create a festive aroma!  Lace will be used for the ribbon, as it’s biodegradable, and more fancy. And, if visitors like, they can also bring along your own holiday decorations if they wish to match to their décor!”

All materials and equipment will be supplied, but visitors can bring their own wire cutters and secateurs.

The workshop will start at 10.30am and last for two hours followed by some light refreshments. The price is £45 per person and includes all materials and eats.

This workshop is suitable for ages 12+. Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
