Christmas and New Year travel with Translink Dec 2020 / January 2021



Translink is advising passengers to check their travel in advance, as bus and train timetables will change over the Christmas and New Year period.


Passengers are also reminded that Covid-19 safety measures are in place on board buses and trains and at stations, including the wearing of face coverings.

• NI Railways

NI Railways will close early on Christmas Eve.

Trains will not operate on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Sunday services will operate on Sunday 27th December and Saturday services will operate on 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st December (early close on 31st December). A Sunday service will be in place on New Year’s Day and a limited Enterprise service will run.

NI Railways will operate a Saturday service on 2nd January, a Sunday service on 3rd January and a Saturday service on Monday, 4th January.

Also, due to Engineering Works during an 8 day line closure from Sunday 27th December to Sunday, 3rd January, bus substitutions will operate between Belfast and Bangor; and Belfast and Yorkgate. Great Victoria Street station will also be closed.

Passengers are advised to check and plan their travel in advance as bus substitutions will operate at different times to scheduled trains. Bus substitutions may not serve all stations and passengers should check their closest boarding point.

Bangor line passengers with valid rail tickets will also be able to travel on scheduled Ulsterbus services operating between Belfast and Bangor during the closure period.

Christmas Day 25 December • No Service

Boxing Day 26 December & New Year’s Day 1 January 2021. Most services will not operate. Cross-border coach services will operate a reduced holiday timetable.

• Metro/Glider


A school holiday timetable will operate on Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd December and Christmas Eve, with early finish Christmas Eve.

Boxing Day 26 December & New Year’s Day 1 January 2021 Public Holiday Timetable

Monday 28th December to Thursday 31st December – school holiday timetables

Please note the Metro Kiosk at Donegall Square West will be closing at the end of the year as we move to a new ticketing system. Passengers can buy Translink Smartcard top-ups at Visit Belfast (Donegall Square North), from Glider Ticket Machines, Translink Agents and any PayPoint agent.

Christmas Eve 24 December – Normal service until early close (last departure from Belfast 7.30pm, last departure from airport 8.20pm)

Christmas Day 25 December • No Service

Boxing Day : holiday timetable

Sunday 27th December – normal service resumes

New Year’s Day – holiday timetable

Airport 600 services – George Best City Airport

Christmas Eve 24 December: normal service until early close - last departure from Belfast 9.00pm. Last departure from Airport 9.15pm

Christmas Day: No Service

Boxing Day: No Service

New Year’s Day 1 January 2021: Sunday Timetable (commencing from Belfast 0715; commencing from Airport 0740)

• Park and Ride


Cairnshill, Blacks Road, Dundonald, Sprucefield Park and Ride – Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day - no service.

• Foyle Metro


Christmas Eve 24 December Usual service with early evening close

New Year’s Day 1 January 2021. No service.
