Members of the public are invited to attend Challenging the Scamdemic, a crucial Scam Awareness Conference designed to inform, educate, and empower individuals against financial fraud and scams.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 19th March 2025, at The Braid Arts Centre, Ballymena from 10am – 3pm.

This free event open to the public, is hosted by local older people’s charity - Mid & East Antrim Agewell Partnership, who will bring together industry experts, government representatives, and victims of scams to share insights and solutions for tackling fraud in our communities.

Jenny Marshall, Executive Director of Community Programmes at Agewell, emphasised the importance of this event, stating:

"Our recent community consultation highlighted scam awareness and education as a priority for the charity, as we develop our new strategic plan.

“Many of the older individuals in our area have either been targeted by scams or know someone who has, and the impact can be devastating for both victims and their loved ones. This highlights the urgent need for awareness and community action.

“We are committed to equipping our community with the knowledge and resources to combat fraud and financial exploitation."

The event is kindly of supported by Radius Housing, Triangle Housing, The Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Mid & East Antrim Policing and Community Safety Partnership as well as Mid & East Antrim Borough Council.

The conference will provide attendees with practical advice on recognising, preventing, and reporting scams, with an emphasis on protecting older and vulnerable individuals.

With fraud and cybercrime on the rise, this event is a must-attend for anyone looking to stay informed and safeguard themselves and their loved ones. The event will include a free lunch and scam awareness goody bag for all attendees.
