Bumper the blind puppy seeks special forever home

Bumper the blind puppy

A blind puppy is looking for a very special home with owners who can help him to navigate the world.

Bumper, now aged 11 weeks old, came to the USPCA centre in August 2024, as a very small blind pup.

Initially the team were unsure whether he would survive. However, after several weeks of vet treatment and, lots of tlc, the USPCA Animal Care team is now seeking to find him a forever home which is suitable for his needs.

Bumper is a grey merle Dachshund who is learning to find his paws in life with no vision. Given his small stature, the USPCA Veterinary team have said it is hard to be certain if he has been born with severe microphthalmia (small eyes) or anophthalmia (no eyes). As he grows, time will tell.

USPCA Director of Operations & Development, Siobhan McHaffie said:

“Bumper’s disability isn’t holding him back from developing great confidence! The Centre would have been so overwhelming for him so one of our staff has been fostering Bumper at home to give him the additional care and support he needs due to his young age and sight issues.

“Under supervision he loves to explore (experiencing a few bumps along the way, hence his name) but equally he loves being doted upon and will happily cuddle up in your arms.

“This affectionate boy will need a family who have someoneat home most of the time. Perhaps remote/hybrid workers as he just thrives on company. His new owners will need to be ready to dedicate training time to help him with his disability too.

“We understand that taking on any dog is a huge responsibility and taking on one with special needs is a big decision, but this beautiful pup really does deserve a happy ever after”.

The USPCA stated that Bumper is just the latest animal admitted to the USPCA requiring vital veterinary treatment before being able to be rehomed. There are lots of other pets in their Centre that are in need of their forever home.

Those interested in adopting Bumper or any other pet in need of a forever home can apply via the USPCA website or emailrehoming@uspca.co.uk to chat with the Animal Care team.
