Belfast Zoo is going green this month by using upcycled and repurposed materials to celebrate Halloween.
Belfast Zoo's upcoming "Boo at the Zoo" event on October 26th and 27th will emphasise waste reduction and creative reuse of everyday items that would typically be thrown away.
They are encouraging Schools, community groups, and individuals to make their own upcycled decorations for the zoo's exhibits.
Zoo manager, Alyn Cairns said:
“This year for Halloween, we aimed to engage our zoo visitors in a way that would allow them to participate and contribute. At the zoo, we consistently practice recycling and repurposing, so we decided to continue this practice for events as well.
“On Wednesday, we posted on social media requesting individuals to make their own repurposed decorations. The reaction was quick with inquiries flooding in via email and phone. To continue supporting animal conservation, we will include an extinction graveyard and introduce new live spooky characters for our visitors' entertainment.”
Visitors can also view the extinction graveyard that highlights conservation and loss of many species of our animal kingdom.
After Halloween, the items from Boo at the Zoo will be given a makeover and reused again for the Wildlife Wonderland event in December.
