Body recovered on North Coast

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have this afternoon confirmed that a body has been recovered in the area of the Giant’s Causeway on the County Antrim coast.


HM Coastguard teams were deployed to the scene of the discovery on Saturday, 22 February, shortly after 2:00pm, were they awaited the arrival of police colleagues.



Later in Saturday afternoon, the NI Ambulance Service was also tasked to the incident. A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service stated:


"The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 4.57pm on Saturday February 22 following reports of an incident at the Giant’s Causeway.


"NIAS despatched a rapid response paramedic to the incident.


"No patients were taken from the scene.”



Today, Sunday 23 February, a spokesperson for the PSNI stated:


“Police, together with colleagues from His Majesty’s Coastguard, have recovered a body in the Causeway Road area of Bushmills today, Sunday 23rd February.


“A post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death and we are working to identify the deceased.


“The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.”
