Barr’s new state of the art Butchers and Deli opening early 2023

One of Ballymena’s oldest butcher shops has revealed exciting expansion plans which will change the face of Ballymoney Street in the town, offer a greater range for customers, and create a number of new jobs.

Barr’s Family Butchers, first opened by master butcher George Barr in 1878, has been located in the heart of Ballymena and serving generations of local families for almost 145 years, and has been passed down through the Barr family ever since.

The company is currently under the ownership of George’s great-great-grandson, Trevor Barr, who over recent years has expanded the premises and grown the brand to deliver a wide range of delicious convenience foods throughout County Antrim.

With a solid customer-base and continued growth in the business, Trevor is about to embark upon a massive expansion project at his busy shop.

Talking to Love Ballymena, Trevor said:

“I recently purchased the two premises beside our shop which will enable us expand to create a more vibrant and modern-day butchers shop for our customers.

“We have exciting plans to increase our range of convenience, ready meals, deli items, and salad boxes. We also will be selling barista style coffee for take-away, and will have space to stock a wider selection of freshly prepared vegetables.”

Trevor added: “With the extension will come the opportunity for more jobs for the Ballymena area with a bigger team here at Barr’s”.

Barr’s Butchers is renowned for their master butchers who bone all their meat in-house sourced from 100% Northern Irish beef and also provide excellent customer service and satisfaction. All soups, stews, pies and salads are produced in the purpose-built state of the art factory outside Ballymena.

With big plans and plenty of excitement, Trevor has no time to waste. Demolition works are set to start next week at the site on Ballymoney Street to make way for the new ‘bigger and better’ Barr’s Family Butchers.

Throughout the construction the shop will be open and trading as normal:

• Monday to Friday | 8am to 5.30pm

• Saturday | 7am to 5.30pm

The new store will be opened for business early next year, 2023.
