Councillor Alan Barr
Braid Ulster Unionist Councillor, Alan Barr, has called for the installation of a bus shelter in the villages of Kells and Connor.
Councillor Barr said:
“Currently the villages of Kells and Connor do not have a bus shelter at any of the villages’ bus stops. This is to the detriment of residents because as our climate becomes more inclement, residents will have to endure more waiting at the bus stop in the rain.
“The effect of this could be that residents become reluctant to use public transport on a rainy day. Therefore, elderly and isolated residents may lose out on socialising or attending medical appointments.”
Councillor Barr added:
“Additionally, residents of school age may be reluctant to use public transport during inclement weather resulting in them being taken to school in private cars instead. This adds to congestion at local schools and increases the stress of the ‘school run’ on parents.”
Councillor Barr said that over the next month, he will be consulting with Council officers, residents and Colin Crawford MLA as to where a bus shelter could be best placed.
If any residents have any suggestions as to where they would like to see a bus shelter installed, please feel free to contact Councillor Barr on 07736128355 or cllr.barr@midandeastantrim.gov.uk
