Music enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Band, Bugles, Pipes & Drums of the Royal Irish Regiment prepares to make a triumphant return to the Braid Arts Centre this Friday, 21st March, at 7.30pm.

Under the expert direction of Bandmaster Richard Douglas, who has served with distinction for many years, the ensemble is poised to deliver an unforgettable evening of musical brilliance.

Richard Douglas, reflecting on the upcoming performance, expressed his excitement:

“I think our audience will be delighted with the selection of music which I’ve chosen for them.” Known for its tireless schedule, the Band is one of the most active Reserve Army Bands in the United Kingdom, having performed extensively across Northern Ireland throughout the year.

“There will be something new in the programme as well as all of the old favourites,” Richard added, promising a blend of innovation and tradition to captivate attendees.

The concert holds special significance as all proceeds will support the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), a dedicated military charity that provides vital assistance to soldiers, veterans, and their families.

David Forsey, Director of the ABF in Northern Ireland, shared his enthusiasm:

“I know that the band is very much looking forward to performing in Ballymena again. There is always a great deal of support here, and the local audience always generates a fantastic atmosphere.” He also highlighted a distinguished guest, noting, “I am also looking forward to hosting the NI Veterans’ Commissioner, David Johnstone, who is supporting the event and will be in the audience.”

The ABF plays a crucial role in supporting the military community, disbursing approximately £8 million annually across the UK to address a range of needs.

In Northern Ireland, the charity’s efforts have included helping veterans return to employment, improving mobility for those with disabilities, and funding repairs to veterans’ homes. Notably, the Somme Nursing Home in Belfast has benefited from past ABF grants, enabling essential building extensions.
