The Veterans Support Group Ballymena (VSGB) is set to host a free health event at the Services Club Ballymena on Saturday, November 2nd, focusing on mental and physical health awareness as the organisation highlights its recently launched online support hub.
The day kicks off with a twist on tradition; instead of the usual hearty breakfast fry-up, attendees will start their day with a nutritious breakfast at 10:30am. Everyone is encouraged to come along and tuck in!
Following this, at noon, VSGB will unveil its new website, which has been transformed into a crucial online support hub for both the public and its members, complete with direct links to various support services.
The site also offers information on helplines, and includes a chat function with the VSGB administration team.
Between 12:30pm and 4:30pm, the event will feature an array of health-related activities including:
- Information stalls on mental health, substance abuse, and cancer prevention.
- Free blood pressure checks and weight management consultations.
- Demonstrations of alternative therapies like reflexology.
- A community pharmacist on hand for advice.
- Distribution of free vegetable packs for healthy eating, and a communal healthy curry lunch.
Cllr Lawrie Philpott, VSGB Chairperson, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative:
“We've put in considerable effort to organise this event packed full of health focused activities for the Ballymena community.
“We are looking forward to providing everyone with an opportunity to come along and engage with a range of health professionals. Everyone is welcome, and it’s our hope the event will encourage us all to look after both our mental and physical health better.
“To top it off there will be the chance to sample some therapies and enjoy delicious healthy food on offer!”
There will be several community based groups in attendance raising awareness of what services are available within the Ballymena community to help improve mental and physical health.
Healthy eating vegetable packs will be distributed free to all attendees and a healthy curry will be on offer to everyone at the event.
