Members of Ballymena U3A were delighted to welcome BBC Northern Ireland Business and Economic Editor, John Campbell, as guest speaker at the organisation's recent monthly meeting.
Taking place at the Ecos Hub in Ballymena on Thursday 4th January, those gathered enjoyed an informative and interesting talk fom John on the UK Government's proposed financial package and its implications for Northern Ireland.
Following the event, John commented:
"It was lovely to come back and speak to such an experienced and attentive audience in Ballymena."
This month's talk was the latest event organised by Ballymena U3A, an organisation which is for people of any age, and who are no longer in full-time employment or do not have other major commitments.
The group provides an opportunity for people to continue to be physically and mentally active at a time in their lives when they do not have the same opportunities to socialise like they may have enjoyed in the past.
U3A in an international organisation which was founded in France in 1973.
Locally, Ballymena U3A was set up in 2004 and now has over 170 members! There is a general meeting at 11.00am on the first Thursday of the month in the Ecos Hub when members can enjoy hearing from a guest speaker. Many members take the opportunity to have a coffee or lunch in the Secret Garden Cafe afterwards.
Members can also join smaller groups with activities such as Pilates, Bridge, Tai Chi, Zumba, a book club and a number of languages classes. Events, trips and holidays are also organised.
