Translink is bringing its commitment to enhancing biodiversity and promoting sustainability to Ballymena with a new educational and informative workshop.

This drop-in session is part of a series of biodiversity workshops being delivered at stations across Northern Ireland, aiming to engage communities and inspire environmental action through public transport.

Taking place at Ballymena Bus & Rail Station on Tuesday 20th August 2024, 11am-1pm, the free workshop is completely open to the public and offers a range of activities and information designed for all ages.

It follows the recent launch of Translink’s ambitious Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, which aims to achieve nature-positive operations by 2030. Key goals include a 10% Biodiversity Net Gain by 2035 and a significant increase in woodland cover on Translink landholdings.

Among the workshop's highlights will be a seed station, where attendees young and old can get hands-on experience planting seeds and understanding the importance of flora in sustaining our ecosystem. Additionally, there will be information on how the public can participate in Translink’s citizen science survey project, contributing valuable data to monitor and protect local biodiversity.

Children can also take home an eco-booklet filled with fun activities and educational content about biodiversity, encouraging them to explore and appreciate the natural world.

Another exciting feature is the introduction of a biodiversity photo competition, inviting participants to capture the beauty of Northern Ireland across the public transport network.

Suzanne Sinclair, Biodiversity Manager at Translink, said:

“This is an exciting opportunity to engage with our communities and share the important work we are doing through our Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2030. These workshops are designed to be informative and interactive, offering something for all ages. We encourage everyone to join us and learn how they can contribute to a greener, healthier and better-connected environment.”
