Ballymena Registration Office moves to new home in the Braid

The Braid Town Hall Ballymena

Ballymena’s Registration Office is relocating to The Braid (Bridge Street, Ballymena) on Thursday 8 February.

The Registrar’s service is responsible for registering births, deaths and marriages – and also performs marriages and civil partnerships. The Ballymena office is currently located in Ardeevin (Galgorm Road).

Work to relocate the office is almost complete. The new Registration facilities will be based in the reception area of the Braid - which is easier to access due to its central location and offers improved accessibility.

The new facilities will include two separate office spaces dedicated to customer appointments and support services.

The Town Hall which is incorporated within The Braid can host wedding and civil ceremonies in both the beautiful ornate surroundings of the original building as well as the within the modern art centre. The Braid has lift access to facilitate access to all floors and there are car parking spaces for customers in close proximity to the front entrance of the building.

The Registration office operates an appointment only service. Opening hours will remain the same: Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm, with appointments available between the hours of 9.30am – 4.00pm.

The office is closed on bank/public holidays.

Contact details will also stay the same phone number: 0300 124 5000 or email registrar@midandeastantrim.gov.uk

A spokesperson for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council said:

“We are delighted that the move to The Braid is nearing completion and can assure residents that they can continue to expect the same high quality and responsive service.

“The new location in The Braid will provide improved facilities, benefiting customers and staff alike. The ceremony rooms within The Braid create an ideal venue for couples and we look forward to hosting many happy ceremonies.

“During the transition from Ardeevin to The Braid, full service will be maintained throughout - with calls handled through our service teams based at Smiley Buildings in Larne and Carrickfergus Townhall.”

The move represents the end of an era at Ardeevin, which had been home to the service since mid 1980’s.

The main reception in Ardeevin which deals with dog licensing, environmental health payments and a range of other customer services will also be moving to The Braid in the coming months with details to be announced in due course.
