Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Steven Callaghan hosts a civic reception in Cloonavin for local award-winning food and drink producers.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Steven Callaghan has hosted a civic reception to honour award-winning food and drink producers across the Borough.
Commending the businesses for their success in local awards such as Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards, as well as receiving recognition in UK-wide schemes such as the Great Taste Awards and Quality Food Awards, Cllr Callaghan said:
“Causeway Coast and Glens has no shortage of fantastic food and drink producers, and this is evident in the wide array of accolades that local businesses have won.
“These awards recognise and celebrate the quality of products within the industry, and the fact that our Borough is so well represented serves to underscore the commitment to excellence demonstrated by our local producers.
“A key factor in the success of these businesses is theiruse of the finest local ingredients, as well as their passion and dedication in crafting exceptional products.”
Among those in attendance at the special reception in Cloonavin on Wednesday, February 28 were:
• Morelli Ice Cream Ltd, Coleraine
Marino and Daniela Morrelli of Morrelli's Ice Cream, who won several accolades at the Blas Na hEireann Irish Food Awards, including Supreme Champion Award. They also won a number of awards at the Great Taste Awards and the Irish Quality Food Awards.
• Basalt Distillery Ltd, Bushmills
James Richardson and Martha Garbe of Basalt Distillery Bushmills, who received a Gold award at the Blas Na hEireann Irish Food Awards and also 2-stars in Great Taste Award.
• Dundarave Estate, Bushmills
Andy Killen from Dundarave Estates, who won a Goldaward for mini shortbread and a Bronze for Grape, Redwine and Rosemary Jelly Chutney at the Blas Na hEireann Irish Food Awards, as well as achieving 1-star at the Great Taste Award for Christmas Pudding.
• Devil’s Churn/Seasons of the Glens, Ballycastle
Eoin McConnell of Seasons of the Glens, who won Gold and Silver awards at the Blas Na hEireann Irish Food Awards and achieved 2-stars in the Great Taste Awards.
• Glens of Antrim Crisps, Cushendall
Mary McKillop and Sheldon Beggs of Glens of Antrim Crisps, Cushendall, who won several accolades at theGreat Taste Awards, as well as Bronze at the Blas Na hEireann Irish Food Awards and Bronze at the Irish Quality Food Awards.
• Broighter Gold Oil, Limavady
Leona Kane of Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil, who won Bronze at the Blas Na hEireann Irish Food Awards.
• Milgro, Limavady
William Miller of Milgro, who received a Silver award for OniT! Crispy Onions at Blas Na hEireann Irish Food Awards.
• Lacpatrick Dairies, Coleraine
Aideen O'Hagan of LacPatrick Dairies, Coleraine.
• Jam at The Doorstep, Ballymoney
Amanda Hanna of Jam at the Doorstep, who won a Great Taste Award for her handmade Christmas pudding.
• Causeway Coffee, Ballymoney
Graham Watts of Causeway Coffee who received a 1-star award for its Oonagh Coffee at the Great Taste Awards.
• Irish Black Butter, Portrush
Allistair Bell of Irish Black Butter, who won Gold at the Quality Food Awards.
