Twenty-eight new homes are being planned for the Wyncairn area of Larne.

Reserved matters approval is being sought for a proposed residential development of 10 detached and 18 semi-detached houses with access roads and landscaping on a two hectare site between Wyncairn Road East and Hawthorn Hill.

A planning, design concept and access statement has been submitted with the application to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council further to outline planning permission already approved by the local authority.

The statement indicates that the initial plan submitted with the outline application proposed 39 dwellings comprising 11 detached houses, 20 semi-detached houses and eight apartments.

However, it noted that a “number of concerns had been raised in relation to the density of the proposal, the principle of apartments, access running through the open space and inadequate provision of open space”.

As a result, a revised “illustrative” plan was produced and the outline application was approved by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

It says that since the outline permission was granted, access has been “considered in greater detail” and it was considered that the best option is to provide access via Wyncairn Road East.

The proposed site is currently agricultural grazing land which is zoned for housing.

The statement indicates that the planned houses and roads have been “designed to respect the site contours” with “a number of sloped banks as opposed to large retaining walls” and the plan is for houses “to be sited to avoid overlooking existing or proposed properties”.

“The proposal will provide attractive new homes in a high-quality environment with substantial public and private open space and new planting,” it says.
