Local Alliance representatives Sian Mulholland MLA (North Antrim) and Cllr Lee Kane (Ballymoney) have strongly welcomed news that Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has greenlit the construction phase of much-needed Changing Places facilities on Rathlin Island and Megaw Park in Ballymoney.

Changing Places are larger accessible toilet facilities for those with disabilities, with equipment such as hoists, curtains, adult-sized changing benches, and space for carers.

Rathlin Island and Ballymoney's Megaw Park are set to benefit significantly from these additions, enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Sian Mulholland, Alliance MLA for North Antrim, emphasised the importance of providing accessible facilities for everyone, stating:

"I am delighted to see Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council taking a proactive approach to address the needs of our community members with disabilities. These Changing Places facilities will make a substantial difference in ensuring that everyone can enjoy the beautiful spaces we have in North Antrim, including Rathlin Island and Ballymoney."

Cllr Lee Kane, who seconded the motion at the Council meeting in December, echoed Mulholland's sentiments, saying:

"As we move forward with the upgrades to Megaw Park, it is important that we make sure the park is accessible to everyone. A Changing Places facility at Megaw Park is a positive step towards creating an inclusive environment, which will not only benefit residents but also make our community more welcoming to individuals with diverse needs.”

The construction phase of the Changing Places facilities is expected to commence shortly, and is part-funded by the Department for Communities.

The development aligns with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council's dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive community for everyone.
